2023 Coaching Announcements

Besim Balicevic – Women’s First Team Coach

VUWAFC is delighted to announce the appointment of Besim Balicevac as Head Coach of our Women’s Central League team for this season.

Besim comes to us with an excellent coaching pedigree, having previously led Wellington Olympic and Petone FC in the Men’s Central League, and Stop Out and Lower Hutt FC in Men’s Capital Premier.

Besim says he is ‘really excited to accept this new challenge and help support and grow Women’s Football and our proud club during Women’s World Cup year.’

New Zealand born, Besim has strong Serbian heritage with both his parents born in the former Yugoslavia. His playing experience includes captaining the New Zealand u-17s in the early 90s and playing in the National League with Wellington Olympic and Petone FC.

Alex Brodie and Phil Chapman – Women’s Reserve Team Coaches

VUWAFC is delighted to confirm the appointment of Alex Brodie as head coach of our women’s reserves, along with Phil Chapman as his assistant. Alex said “I am very excited to be back coaching at VUWAFC alongside Phil Chapman this season. We have a great group of players and we can’t wait for the season to get underway!”

Michael Roxburgh – Men’s First Team Coaches

VUWAFC is delighted to confirm the return of well-liked coach Mike Roxburgh as Head Coach of our Men’s first team. Last season Mike led us through a rebuild and took the team close to a return to Cap Prem. Mike says he is “looking forward to the season and hoping to build on last year”.

Simon Davies and Michael Roberts – Men’s Reserve Team Coaches

VUWAFC is pleased to announce the appointment of club legends Si Davies and Michael Roberts as coaches of our Men’s Reserves side. Si and Robbo have a long history with the club and their experience and commitment is greatly valued by us. They both join the Reserves as player-coaches. They said “We’re both excited to get back involved with the seconds and Mike and the whole senior men’s squad. We played together for the seconds in our first season at the club, before half of the current team was even born, and we were fortunate to enjoy some success back then so although we’ve lost a few yards of pace over the years since, we’re hoping some of the experience (and grey hairs) we’ve gained can help to recreate some of that success.”
